Jurisdiction of Consumer Forums
- District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum (DCDRF), if transaction and relief is Rs. 20 Lakhs or below
- State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (SCDRC), if amount of relief is more than Rs. 20 Lakhs but below Rs. 1 Crore
- National Conumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC), if amount of relief is Rs. 1 Crore and above
The case is filed in the city / state where the Opposite Party resides, has registered office, branch, or works for gain.
The case can also be filed in the city / state where the cause of action has occurred.

Consumer can be defined as any person who buys goods and services for self-consumption and not for resale or trade.

What Law Governs Consumer Cases?
